Main Priorities

RI BUDGET

  • Rhode Island's budget is about $15B a year, and there are only about 1 million Rhode Islanders. This means that every man, woman, child, older adult, and baby must contribute $15,000 per year to keep the state running

  • The Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council identifies Rhode Island as the most expensive state for General Administrative expenses

  • The massive budget in our state is largely due to having thirty-nine (39) cities and towns, each with its own independent administration, police department, fire department, and (mostly) school systems

  • Having county administration, police, fire, and schools would save significant revenue.

TAXES

  • Rhode Island has a spending problem. Rather than taking a hard look at where spending could be cut, Rhode Island enables it.

  • Increased taxes on individuals, the wealthy, and business harm every aspect of our state.

  • Before we add more taxes, let's make a good-faith effort to reduce spending significantly.

  • Yes, it will cause some short-term pain, but the current approach to spending and taxation is unsustainable.

BUSINESS

  • It is difficult to run a business. It is even more difficult to run a business in Rhode Island.

  • CNBC has consistently ranked Rhode Island at the bottom of its "Best States for Business" List.

  • This list is based on Economy, Infrastructure, Workforce, Cost of Doing Business, Access to Capital, and related factors.

  • Rhode Island regularly changes laws to "support" workers. However, such changes are often disruptive to businesses, and although they improve working conditions, they reduce employment.
